Dangerous Goods (DG) Types and Usage Guides

Definition of Dangerous Goods

Dangerous goods are substances or materials that pose a significant risk to health, safety, property, or the environment during transportation due to their physical, chemical, or biological properties. These goods are classified into nine main categories by the United Nations based on the type of hazard they present:

  1. Explosives
  2. Gases (compressed, liquefied, or dissolved under pressure)
  3. Flammable liquids
  4. Flammable solids, substances liable to spontaneous combustion, and substances that emit flammable gases when in contact with water
  5. Oxidizing substances and organic peroxides
  6. Toxic and infectious substances
  7. Radioactive materials
  8. Corrosive substances
  9. Miscellaneous dangerous substances and articles

The transportation of dangerous goods is heavily regulated by international and national laws to minimize the risk of accidents and ensure public safety. These regulations cover aspects such as packaging, labeling, documentation, handling, and emergency response procedures.
