Skid Steer Loader

Wheels, Tracks & Rollers

A compact piece of machinery with a lift arm, offering tight turning and versatile attachments

What is a Skid Steer Loader?

A skid steer loader is a class of compact heavy machinery compromising a lift arm that can attach to a variety of buckets and attachments. Skid steers are named after their unique steering mechanism; turning is enabled by increasing the speed of wheels on one side, causing the machine to skid or drag across the ground enabling tight turning in small spaces.

Key Features of a Skid Steer Loader:

  1. Transmissions: Two independent transmissions allow the wheels to move separately facilitating tight turning in small spaces and increased maneuverability including turning 360 degrees on its own footprint
  2. Compact design: Their small size allows for excellent maneuverability in tight spaces and easy transport between job sites.
  3. Hydraulic lifting arms: Dual hydraulic arms provide impressive lifting capacity, ranging from 500 - 1,900 kg depending on the model.
  4. Versatile attachments: Skid steers can accommodate a wide range of attachments, transforming them for various tasks like digging, grading, and snow removal.

Skid Steer Loader Considerations

When operating a skid steer loader these are the most important factors to consider:

  • Size and rated operating capacity (ROC): Choose between small (700 - 800 kg ROC), medium (800 - 1000 kg ROC), large (1000+ kg ROC) based on the typical load requirements
  • Lift type: Decide between radial lift for digging and ground-level work, or vertical lift for higher lifting and placing tasks
  • Attachments: Ensure compatibility with the attachments needed for specific applications
  • Hydraulic flow and horsepower: Match these to your required attachments and tasks
