Wheeled Crane

Wheels, Tracks & Rollers

Mobile machines equipped for heavy lifting using a boom with hydraulic lifting gear

What is a Wheeled Crane?

Wheeled cranes, also known as mobile cranes, are versatile and powerful machines designed mainly for lifting heavy objects using a boom equipped with lifting gear. There are many types of wheeled cranes designed for the different environments within the construction, agriculture, logistics and manufacturing sectors:

  • All-Terrain Mobile Cranes: Ideal for challenging environments equipped with multiple axles and large tires, allowing them to navigate various terrains
  • Truck-Mounted Mobile Cranes: Characterised by their telescopic boom and hydraulic system, these cranes offer versatility and easy transportation between job sites
  • City Cranes: Compact yet powerful, these cranes are designed for urban environments with limited space
  • Rough Terrain Cranes: Equipped with large rubber tires, these cranes excel in off-road and uneven ground conditions

Key Benefits of a Wheeled Crane

  1. High mobility: Ability to travel on public roads with the proper licensing enables easy access between sites, and saves on logistics
  2. Versatile lifting capacities: From small 2.5-tonne cranes to massive 450-tonne models, different models are suited for various industries
  3. Quick setup: Many models can be operational within minutes of arriving on-site
  4. Advanced safety features: Including outriggers for stability and computerised control systems

Wheeled Crane Considerations

The following factors are important considerations when operating a wheeled crane:

  • Lifting capacity: consider the lifting capacity for your site and ensure the model is well within your requirements
  • Lifting reach: Lifting reach depends on boom length and configuration, check the various models against your needs
  • Site accessibility and terrain conditions: for rough terrain consider a model with large rubber tires compared to an urban environment with limited space
