Wheeled Excavator

Wheels, Tracks & Rollers

Wheeled excavators combine digging power with mobility, ideal for urban projects on hard surfaces.

What is a Wheeled Excavator?

Wheeled excavators are similar to a standard tracked excavator (crawler) and differ by having wheels instead of tracks. This offers a piece of machinery combining the digging capabilities of traditional tracked excavators (crawler) combined with the on-road speed and maneuverability of wheeled vehicles. Wheeled excavators have less traction than their tracked equivalent and are best suited for asphalt or concrete surfaces.

Key features of Wheeled excavators:

  • Enhanced mobility: Easily travel between job sites without the need for transportation trucks saving on logistics and transport costs
  • Enhanced reach: Two-piece articulating boom feature allows operators to reach farther, dig deeper, and work around obstacles like mailboxes and guardrails
  • Versatility: Suitable for urban projects, road construction, and utility work, wheeled excavators offer efficient digging power in small spaces without compromising sensitive ground conditions where their tracked counterparts would cause damage from their additional traction
  • Stability: Outriggers ensure a stable working platform on various terrains

Wheeled excavator considerations

When selecting a wheeled excavator for you project consider these factors:

  • Size and power requirements: Choose an excavator with appropriate dimensions and weight for your project's digging depth, reach, and lifting capacity needs. Models vary from compact, through to large for various requirements.
  • Typical job site conditions: Assess the ground conditions and surface type. Wheeled excavators are ideal for hard surfaces like concrete, asphalt, and roads.
  • Attachment compatibility: Evaluate the compatibility with various attachments for increased versatility.
  • Stability: Assess the need for outriggers or a front dozer blade for enhanced stability during operations.
